Spend a day in Cardona, home to one of the largest and most important mines of Europe: the salt mines of Cardona and the "Montanya de Sal".

Cardona Tour. Cardona is a small town with a big history, from the salt mines which reach depths of more than 1300 meters to the castle on top of the hill (home of the Parador of Cardona). It is a wonderful way to escape the big city bustle for a day, while enjoying the best of inland Catalonia and some truly spectacular scenery. After the morning drive past Montserrat mountain, take a guided visit into the Salt Mines of Cardona, a 30 million year old salt mountain whose value can be seen in the protection the various civilizations places around the area. After the tour of the mine, head into the town center for a bite to eat at a wonderful local restaurant before returning to the centuries old town center. Finish the day with a visit to the castle on top of the hill, now home to one of the the most spectacular Parador hotels and offering panoramic views of the area, before returning to Barcelona.
