The wine region

Bierzo has become in one of the wine regions with the highest prospective future in the country. The wines of this region are quickly rising up the international wine charts, and have been placed among the top 100 wines of the world.

Local gastronomy

The botillo del Bierzo (a meat-based product emblematic of the region), the Berciana pies, smoked chorizo and the black sausauge with onion are, together with coad, the most significant part of the cuisine of Bierzo. Apples, cherries, pears, peppers and chestnuts complete the ample range of culinary possibilities.

Peras al vino (Pears with wine)

Ingredients:

1 kg Pears
2 cups of Bierzo red wine.
1 cinnamon stick.
200 gr of sugar.
2 cups of water.

How to prepare it:

Peel the pears leaving the stalk. Put the pears in a pot with the wine, the cinnamon stick, the sugar and water.

Cook the pears until are tender (approximately 40 minutes cooking them). Put the pears with the remaining liquid in individual bowls.

You can serve the pears hot or cold with wine.
