The wine region

Originally called "Sailor´s wines", Rias Baixas wine region is located close to the Atlantic coast of Spain's Galicia region. The spectacular success of fragrant, fruity white wines, most notably the young Albariños, within a decade of winning DO status in 1988 have placed this region as one of the hottest in the Spanish wine culture.

Local gastronomy

The traditional gastronomy offer us the delicious Caldo Gallego (Galician Soup), the Lacón con Grelos (Shoulder of Pork with Turnip Greens), the Carne Asada (Roast Beef) served with roasted baby potatoes. The Cocido (Stew) is made from shoulder of pork, pig´s head and ears, potatoes and chorizo, or spicy sausage ... And we must not forget to mention the Empanada, one of the region's finest delicacies.

Yet the most famous Galician food is the seafood, thanks to its proximity to the Atlantic Ocean. The most popular dish of all is Pulpo Gallego, Octopus. As soon as you try it once, you'll always want to come back for more. Clams, Percebes (Goose Barnacles), Oysters, Nécoras (Small Crabs), Eel and Vieiras (Scallops) are also all worthy gastronomic prizes of the region.
