VALENCIA
The wine region
One of the largest wine regions in Spain, it is comprised of old-wine growing regions around Spain´s third largest city. Made up of 4 distinct subzones, the region produces all types of wines, with the dessert wines having the most success.
Local gastronomy
The three kings of the Valencian gastronomy are: la paella (dish based on rice), la horchata (Tiger nut milk ) and the Valencian oranges.
The Paella Valenciana por excelencia is served with rabbit and vegetables, but are a lot more of paellas: paella de bogavante, arroz negro, paella mixta, arroz a banda and a plethora of additional options. The seafood paella, contrary to popular myth, is not the original, first appearing in the 1920s along the seaside restaurants on the famous beach of Malvarrosa. And after having eaten a hearty paella or rice dish, the best way to finish the day is with a refreshing Horchata. Horchata is made basically with water, sugar and chufas (Tiger nuts).
