Arrival in Barcelona. Transfer to your hotel in Barcelona. Day at leisure.

NOVEMBER 2

Breakfast at hotel. Morning tour of the Penedés wine region, just south of Barcelona, and Sant Sadurní, the Cava capital of the world. Visit a local artisan winery to see how Cava is made, and enjoy a tasting. Afterward, visit one of the most avant-garde ecological wineries to get a good sample of the range of possibilities in the region. Take the chance to enjoy lunch in a small, family-run restaurant serving traditional Catalan cuisine.

NOVEMBER 3

Breakfast at hotel. Transfer to your hotel in the globally-recognized Priorat wine region. After lunch, enjoy brief introduction to the region and a trip overview with your guide to help you maximize your vacation. Spend the afternoon exploring Montsant National Park, with its breathtaking scenery, and visit the winery or Scala Dei, home of the 1st monastery of its order in Spain. In the evening, enjoy the charms of the area in a rural hotel.

NOVEMBER 4

Breakfast at hotel. Trip out to the Somontano wine region, and the town of Barbastro. The wine region, situated in the Huesca section of the province of Aragon, is surrounded by legend and history. The wineries themselves offer a good insight into this fast-rising D.O., and the towns in the area offer a rich culture and history. From the cave paintings in the national park to the medieval town of Alquezar to the 17th-century palaces in Barbastro to the 21st-century wineries, here you can see a cross-section of Spanish history.

NOVEMBER 5

Breakfast at hotel. Travel over to the prize region of Spanish wines, Rioja. Enjoy the scenic drive and stop along the way in the village of Ayerbe to sample a fantastic local pastry. Upon reaching Logroño, visit the wineries of the region, and learn the secrets of the most famous of the Spanish wines. Spend the evening in the city of Logroño.

NOVEMBER 6

Breakfast at hotel. Morning trip to Zaragoza, one of the least-explored important cities in Spain. Located on the ancient road between Madrid and Barcelona, as well as the Camino de Santiago, the city of Zaragoza offers 2,000 years of history and culture. After lunch in the city, transfer back to Barcelona.

NOVEMBER 7–10

Days at leisure in Barcelona.
