In 1870 Bilbao annexed the town of Abando, which enabled the city to grow dramatically and it became the most cosmopolitan city that we see today. This route will take us on a walk down its wide avenues, and learning about the economic and industrial development that have marked the city’s growth. Magnificent buildings like the “Diputación Foral de Bizkaia” (Bizkaia Delegation Palace) and the Hotel Carlton reflect this growth. The visit ends in Abandoibarra, where the city of Bilbao began its transformation from a medieval city to a model for the 21st century through things like the tram, Deusto library and, of course, the Guggenheim Museum.
