The northern Atlantic coast of Galicia is an estuary filled region known as the Rías Altas. Divided into two main parts, the urban area of La Coruña and As Mariñas and the wilder nature of the Ferrolterra. We will visit a typical village of this region before we head up to La Coruña.
La Coruña is the heart of the region and the biggest city. This seaside community dates back to Roman times, with the Tower of Hercules lighthouse overlooking the city. Its reputation for fine living is reflected in the buildings and plazas, with its lovely main square, 16th century castle and even a few Modernista gems. There are also some excellent museums like the Fine Arts Museum and the Archeological Museum.
