The microclimate of the Ria de Arousa is perfect for the vineyards and lovely gardens surrounding the ‘Pazos’. A great variety of lush and exuberant flowers can be found, among them Camellia, the flower of Galicia, whose beauty has dazzled poets and writers in the region for centuries.
‘Pazos’ are traditional manor houses which are unique to Galicia. Given their beauty, they have become much sought after and many have been converted into stunning rural hotels or wineries. On this tour we will take you to two of the most important Pazos in Galicia:
- One of them has a marvelous garden that has won the prestigious International Garden of Excellence by the Camellia Society. The grapes are grown in a historic garden with a large variety of plants, some 4500 camellias of 800 different varieties. The vineyards are filled with magical spots and buildings that are over 600 years old. It is a Pazo to discover and enjoy, and then we’ll finish the visit at the winery where you can sample their delicious wines.
- The other Pazo is also a palace where winemaking has been one of its key features as far back as the 17th century, working exclusively with a unique variety of Albariño grape. One of its wines was rated as best Spanish white wine by the Spanish wine experts of Guia Peñín in 2015. You will have the chance to taste several of the wines made with this delicious variety.
